江戸時代、伊勢参りに行きたいけど行けないときには、犬に代参を頼んだ。
犬に願文をくくりつけて旅人に託すと、リレー式に伊勢神宮まで連れて行ってもらえ、
お札をもらった帰りも旅人が面倒を見てくれた。
犬が帰ってくると近所のお宮に絵馬を奉納する慣わしだが、現存する絵馬の数からすると
結構な確率で帰ってきたようだ。
